I have been teaching in the Family Medicine residency program since 2006 and I became program director in 2012. I attended Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and my undergraduate was also at Michigan State University. My wife and I are raising three wonderful children, two of which are attending Michigan State University and my youngest is in high school.

In my spare time, I enjoy being out on my boat with family and friends, camping and traveling with my family.

West Michigan is home for me. It is a wonderful place to raise a family. I love the natural beauty of the Lake Michigan lakeshore and the nearby restaurants, sports, museums and other activities of Grand Rapids.

Why I chose to practice in Muskegon

My wife matched into residency in the area and we fell in love with West Michigan. I understood the need for primary care in the area as well and wanted to serve this community as best I could. I have always enjoyed teaching, especially medical education, and saw an opportunity to become affiliated with the Fruitport Family Medicine residency and continue this passion of mine.

In addition to my medical degree, I also have my PhD in genetics and am excited to help residents with their research projects as well as undertaking some projects of my own. I have a special interest in adolescents, women's health and addiction medicine. In addition to seeing my own patients and teaching at Fruitport Family Medicine, I also help with our inpatient service and our OB track.

Why I chose to practice at Mercy Health

I chose to stay in Muskegon following my training here because of the diverse pathology to learn and gain experience from, but also the inviting culture of physicians in this area. I was also excited about the opportunity to practice both hospital medicine and perform deliveries as part of my career in Family Medicine. My husband and I also love everything the west side of Michigan has to offer: lakes, beaches, trails, hunting/camping areas, slower pace of living and plenty of breweries!
