Expert Diagnosis of Endocrine Disorders

Trinity Health Michigan offers more endocrinology disorder services you need close to home. Blood tests help us diagnose many types of endocrine conditions. We also offer advanced testing when necessary. Our expertise leads to accurate diagnoses and appropriate treatments for your needs.

Some Trinity Health Michigan locations maintain national recognition for advanced testing using ultrasound. We are among a small number of programs in the nation accredited by the Ultrasound Practice Accreditation Council of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.

Advanced testing may include:

  • Imaging studies: We may use ultrasound to examine the details of certain glands, like your thyroid or parathyroid. This painless test involves placing a wand against the skin near the gland. The wand emits sound waves that bounce off tissue, creating real-time digital images on a screen.
  • Ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration: For some conditions, a tissue sample (biopsy) is necessary. We use a thin needle and ultrasound imaging to take the sample from precisely the right spot. Examining it under a microscope helps us correctly diagnose issues such as cancer and immune system attacks.

Conditions We Treat

Our experts diagnose and treat the full range of endocrine disorders, including:

  • Acromegaly: Excess growth hormone in adults causes body tissue to grow rapidly, often in the nose, ears, hands and feet.
  • Adrenal disorders: Conditions like Addison’s disease and pheochromocytoma occur due to high or low levels of adrenal gland hormones.
  • Goiter: An enlarged thyroid gland may be caused by thyroid nodules or hormone levels that are too high or too low.
  • Graves' disease: This immune system disorder causes the thyroid gland to produce more hormones than the body needs (hyperthyroidism).
  • Hashimoto’s disease: The immune system attacks healthy cells in the thyroid, decreasing hormone levels (hypothyroidism).
  • Hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol): High levels of fat in the blood often result from a thyroid disorder or diabetes.
  • Hyperthyroidism: The thyroid gland produces excess hormones.
  • Hypogonadism: Sex glands (the testes in men and ovaries in women) produce low levels of hormones.
  • Hypothyroidism: The thyroid gland does not produce enough hormones.
  • Pituitary disorders: Conditions like Cushing disease and growth hormone deficiency occur due to high or low levels of pituitary gland hormones.
  • Thyroid cancer: Malignant (cancerous) cells grow in or travel to the thyroid.
