Vascular Disease Treatments at Trinity Health Michigan: Why Choose Us?

Trinity Health Michigan offers nearly every vascular disease treatment in locations close to home. Even if other treatments have not been successful, our experts can help you. We deliver care that improves circulation, reduces stroke risk and improves your overall health.

You receive a personalized care plan based on your unique health needs and goals. We offer a broad range of treatment options, including open and minimally invasive surgical procedures. Our experience treating a high volume of patients leads to precise care and excellent results.

Vascular Disease Treatments We Offer

Vascular disease experts at Trinity Health Michigan often perform catheter-based treatments. Instead of large incisions, we use thin tubes (catheters) and real-time imaging to carry out the procedure. Open surgery is also an option when necessary.

Treatments for vascular disease at Trinity Health Michigan include:

Angioplasty and Stenting

Angioplasty is a procedure to widen narrowed arteries by pushing away deposits of a waxy substance called plaque. Stenting involves placing a hollow mesh device in the blood vessel to keep it open. You may need angioplasty and stenting if you have peripheral or carotid artery disease that does not respond to medications.

Aortic Aneurysm Repair

An aneurysm is a weak spot in a blood vessel wall that balloons outward. Treatment reinforces the area, protecting you against life-threatening complications.

Aortic aneurysm repair involves placing a device called a stent graft inside the blood vessel. The graft is a hollow tube with a metal mesh support. Blood flows through it instead of putting pressure on the aneurysm. Stent grafts also prevent new ones from forming.

Peripheral Vascular Intervention

This treatment restores blood flow in the lower extremities in people with peripheral artery disease (PAD). Care may involve:

  • Atherectomy, which removes plaque buildup instead of pushing it aside
  • Thrombectomy, which removes a blood clot from an artery

Surgical Bypass

Trinity Health Michigan is home to one of the largest minimally invasive lower extremity bypass programs in the Midwest. Our experience performing a high volume of bypass procedures gives you the best chances for good results.

Surgical bypass involves rerouting blood flow around the diseased portion of a blood vessel. The bypass tissue may be a blood vessel from another area of the body. In some cases, we use a human-made (synthetic) graft.

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome Treatment

Thoracic outlet syndrome happens when nerve and blood vessel compression occur in a tight passage near the upper chest.

If pain medication and physical therapy are unsuccessful, you may need decompression surgery. Our vascular disease experts offer a variety of minimally invasive and surgical decompression procedures.

Varicose Vein Treatment

Varicose veins are large, twisted veins near the skin’s surface. Treatment may be necessary if their appearance bothers you or they cause discomfort.

Trinity Health Michigan offers a variety of options, including injections (sclerotherapy), laser surgery and catheter-based procedures.
