What is nuclear imaging?

Nuclear imaging is a test in which a small amount of radioactive tracer material is injected into the bloodstream. The tracer travels to the area of interest and gives off energy, which is then detected by our computer to produce an image of your heart. The physician is then able to make a diagnosis. The amount of nuclear material that a patient receives during nuclear imaging is very low and has no side effects.

The main difference between nuclear imaging and other types of heart testing is that nuclear imaging is able to identify how a heart functions as opposed to how the heart looks.
