Heart symptoms aren't always felt regularly. Holter monitors and event monitors provide the patient with the ability to make a record of their symptoms whenever and wherever they happen.

What is a Holter Monitor?

A Holter monitor places five sensors on the your chest that are connected to a small recording device, which is required to be worn for 24 to 48 hours. When a symptom is experienced, you can push a button and the device will record the heart's rhythm at that time.

Once the prescribed monitoring period has passed, the device is returned to us, where our technicians will analyze the recording and create a detailed report of the heart's rates and rhythms. A cardiologist will discuss the results with you and, together, you will determine the best treatment options.

What is an Event Monitor?

An event monitor uses two sensors on the chest that are connected to a small recording device. When you feel an abnormal heart spell or symptomatic episode, you will push the "event" button and the monitor will make a record. You can then send a copy by phone to a 24-hour monitoring service that will generate a report of the heart's rhythms. The monitoring service will send this report to your doctor.

Because a patient can wear the event monitor for up to 30 days, we include extra replacement sensors, as needed. At the end of the monitoring period, the results will be discussed by you and your cardiologist.

No preparations are required for either test, and monitor setup takes 20 minutes.
