What is a CT Scan?

A computed tomography (CT) scan gives our physicians the ability to see inside the human body by using X-ray and computer technology to create a three-dimensional image. Trinity Health Michigan uses the Siemens Definition Dual Source CT Scanner, which provides results that are unprecedented in image quality. The dual-source capability reveals extraordinary details about the health of the heart and its blood vessels, including early detection of coronary heart disease and the buildup of plaque.

Our scanner is faster than the beating heart, enabling physicians to scan hearts that others can't. A CT scan can identify:

What is a CTA Scan?

A computed tomography angiogram (CTA) scan is used to specifically look at the blood vessels within the body. An IV of dye (contrast medium) is inserted into the arm and images are taken when the dye is passing through the vessels of interest. The CTA scan is able to identify the presence of:

Coronary Artery Disease
Aneurysms
Atherosclerosis
Blood clots
Damaged blood vessels
