Varicose Veins

A woman and her grandmother stroll happily through a park

When varicose veins and spider veins begin to appear on your body, Trinity Health Michigan is fully equipped to treat your venous insufficiency. Minimally invasive procedures are available to almost all patients and can provide immediate long term relief.

What are Varicose and Spider Veins?

Varicose veins are bulging veins under the skin usually located in the legs. Spider veins are a subset of varicose veins that are smaller and form within the skin. Varicose veins and venous insufficiency affect 25 percent of the population and can occur in both men and women.

Valves in your veins help coordinate blood flow to the heart. Valve dysfunction, also known as venous reflux or insufficiency, leads to increased venous pressure and vein enlargement over time.

Untreated venous insufficiency can lead to chronic pain, permanent skin changes, bleeding, wounds/skin ulcerations or blood clots.
