Conferences and Education
Conferences
We have a dedicated radiology conference room with a high-quality 1080p television monitor for displaying case conferences and lectures. Case conferences are a mix of attending lectures, hot-seat case rounds and resident led didactics. The curriculum is structured to first emphasize preparing the junior residents for call and then shifts focus to preparing the senior residents for the ABR CORE exam as the year progresses.
Conferences are held daily from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Residents are excused from reading room responsibilities for attendance of outside conferences hosted and attended by several regional residency programs, such as the Michigan Radiological Society Annual Resident Section Conference.
Tumor Board
R2-4 residents take turns presenting imaging at weekly multidisciplinary tumor board. Cases are reviewed beforehand with the assigned attending, who is present for support and guidance. Current tumor boards include:
- Lung
- Gastrointestinal
- Hematology/Oncology
- Gynecology
- Breast
- Genitourinary
Educational Resources
We have a large library of books, videos, review materials, and on-line resources available to all residents, including:
- StatDx
- RADPrimer
- E-anatomy
- Innumerable resources on in-house computers
- Monthly ACR Rad-Exam
- Yearly In-Service Training Exam
Residents are signed up for free memberships in:
- RSNA, ARRS, MRS, ACR, with access to respective journals.
The residency maintains dedicated network storage of extensive review material, books, presentations, lectures, and other media.
Each resident attends the four-week ACR Institute for Radiologic Pathology (AIRP) course in Silver Spring, MD. The course registration fees are fully funded by the program.
Medical Student Teaching Program
All of our residents participate in the Medical Student Teaching Program. We typically have 3-4 students rotating through the department at any given time. One resident led lecture is given to the students each week.
Scholarly Activity and Research
All residents are required to participate in at least one research project during their residency. They are encouraged to enter the Trinity Health Oakland annual Trinity Health Regional Resident Research Day and are encouraged to participate in other local and national conferences (MRS, RSNA, ARRS, etc.) as well.
