- Is there research or scholarly activity incorporated in the residency?
Yes. All residents are required to participate in scholarly activity and are required to complete at least one research project and QI project prior to graduation. Trinity Health Michigan has a comprehensive research department with research nurses and statisticians to help support research projects. The Annual Resident Research Day at Trinity Health Michigan, the Southeast Michigan Center for Medical Education forum, along with other local and regional forums are available to residents to present their research results. We have scholarly activity workshops annually to assist residents with formulating, conducting, and presenting research projects. - Are the meals covered in the hospital?
Yes. The residents receive a yearly stipend on their badge that they are able to use in the hospital and at the café located in the building that houses our family medicine office. - Are there scholarly activity funding available to residents?
Yes. The residency program pays for USMLE Step 3 or COMLEX Level 3 during first year, as well as board certification exams and board review courses during third year. Additional funds are available by request at the discretion of the program. - What is the benefit package available to residents?
There is a comprehensive medical, dental and vision plan offered to residents through Trinity Health. For more information please visit, http://mybenefits.trinity-health.org - Is there a resident forum where residents and faculty can discuss concerns?
- What kind of teaching and didactics do you receive?
There are numerous ways that teaching is provided. Every Wednesday afternoon there is a series of lectures provided by attendings, residents and subspecialists. Workshops are offered at the Simulation lab. During regular clinic hours preceptors offer case base evidence-based teaching. Second-year residents on the inpatient service are responsible for regular teaching rounds. Residents are responsible for monthly journal club presentations as well as didactics during Wednesday afternoon sessions. There is a triennial morbidity and mortality conference coordinated by our director of inpatient medicine. - Do you provide housing for residents?
No. There is no resident housing available. - Does the resident have an advisor?
Yes. A faculty advisor is assigned to each resident to act as a mentor with respect to patient management, academic matters, interpersonal considerations and other matters of importance to the resident. - Do the residents and faculty socialize outside of work?
Yes. This happens frequently, at the graduation ceremony, resident and faculty bonding activities, and holiday parties. There are also multiple informal get-togethers at both resident and faculty homes. - Do residents rotate at Trinity Health Hospital in Ann Arbor?
Yes. Residents complete rotations in inpatient pediatrics, geriatrics, pediatric ER, obstetrics, and ICU in Ann Arbor. Residents may also utilize their electives to rotate at the main campus. - Do the clinical office and hospital have electronic health records?
Yes. The office and the hospital are both equipped with the same EPIC electronic medical record. - Are the residents allowed to moonlight?
Yes. After completion of the second year, residents in good standing are allowed to moonlight at the discretion of the program director.
