Curriculum Descriptions
Livingston Family Medicine Center (FMC) - Our clinic is located in Brighton, MI. This outpatient experience is designed to expose the resident to the diagnosis and treatment of conditions encountered in all aspects of family medicine.
Family Medicine Adult Inpatient Service - Our inpatient service is designed as a 12 hour shift in which there are generally 2 interns who manage their own patients with the supervision of a 2nd and 3rd year resident as well as an attending faculty member. This rotation exposes the resident to the appropriate management of inpatient disease as well as focusing on the transition between the hospital stay and the primary care office.
Emergency Medicine - Our residents rotate through the Trinity Health Livingston Emergency Department, which is located at Trinity Health Livingston, as well as a free standing ED at Trinity Health Brighton. Both locations offer exceptional learning opportunities in emergency cases as well as excellent exposure to procedures such as suturing, splinting, central line placement, and other emergent techniques.
Pediatrics - Residents rotate at Corewell Beaumont Hospital Royal Oak for Inpatient pediatric training. Residents also manage pediatric inpatients at TH-Ann Arbor Hospital and rotate in outpatient pediatric clinics. Residents have a Pediatric Emergency Medicine experience through our Ann Arbor Emergency Room.
Obstetrics - During the OB rotations, the residents join the OB/GYN residents at Trinity Health Ann Arbor. They gain experience managing the labor and delivery unit as well as obstetrical triage. They will obtain the knowledge and skills to manage active labor and have the opportunity to participate in vaginal and C-section deliveries.
Behavioral Health Services – This rotation exposes residents to a mix of inpatient and outpatient mental health services. This rotation is done at the Trinity Health Livonia EM unit in Livonia, MI as well as several local outpatient resources.
Surgery - General and orthopedic surgery rotations are done at Trinity Health Livingston and Trinity Health Brighton, the latter housing an outpatient surgery suite. The residents will be exposed to the management of general and orthopedic surgical issues.
Geriatrics - Senior Health and Senior Emergency Medicine in Ann Arbor rotations and residents are also expected to care for a continuity geriatric population, which involves extended care facilities in Brighton.
Intensive Care Unit - Residents will learn to care for the critically ill patients in our Medical Intensive Care Unit at Trinity Health Ann Arbor. There are excellent opportunities to participate in central line placement, arterial line placement, intubation, and other procedures.
