Why I chose this program/location for my training

I chose this program for its emphasis on fostering a sense of belonging and camaraderie among team members and residents. During my interviews with the faculty and interaction with residents, I strongly felt that I would be supported in whatever career path I chose. The commitment to prioritizing both patient care and resident education aligned perfectly with my values and aspirations.

The opportunity to reside in Grand Rapids and explore the beauty of West Michigan adds an enriching dimension to my training experience.

I love to spend time with my friends and family and to cook for them any chance I get. I love to play sports and spend time outdoors exploring nature.

Why I chose this program/location for my training

From the faculty to the residents, everyone was extremely welcoming and engaging during my interview. The strong camaraderie among many residents who were present at the virtual social gathering was evident, even though I was not physically present. As a result, I was able to see that this program is like a family.

Additionally, listening to other residents express how happy they are being a part of this program and having no regrets matching here, reassured me that I would receive the support I need in my training and learning throughout my time here. I’m truly grateful to be here.

After years of traveling for medical school, it’s a true blessing to be back in Michigan and practicing as close to home as possible.

Outside of work, I love to spend time with family and friends, travel, watch sports, cook, explore food from other cultures and enjoy outdoor adventures.

Why I chose this program/location for my training

During medical school, I completed a rotation in Grand Rapids and absolutely loved the city and its population. I have always wanted to train and practice in a community setting as well. During my interview with Trinity Health Michigan, their camaraderie, resident-centered culture and diverse clinical experiences really resonated with me. 

These elements combined with my love for West Michigan made Trinity Health Michigan the perfect match for me.

Hobbies/what I do outside of work

Outside of work, I love spending time outdoors with my family, fiancé and my 2 dogs. That usually includes some kind of camping, hiking, kayaking or fly fishing. I also enjoy horticulture, bread making and watch building.

Why I chose this program/location for my training

Trinity Health Grand Rapids instantly felt like home, and a big part of that was my conversation with Dr. Hull, our program director. Whether I wanted to pursue a particular fellowship or explore different avenues within internal medicine, I knew that the program would provide me with mentorship, guidance, resources, and encouragement. It's reassuring to know that I have such a strong support system backing me as I navigate my medical journey.

The sense of camaraderie that I noticed between residents also put me at ease and I am so excited for the friendships that I will make. Further, with my family just a few hours away in Canada, I couldn't imagine a better place to spend the next three years.

Hobbies/what I do outside of work

I enjoy spending time with my friends, family and guinea pig! I also love exploring new restaurants, listening to music, studying philosophy, interior decorating, travelling and experiencing different cultures.

My interview with Trinity Health Grand Rapids was amazing! From the very start, I could sense a clear commitment to resident success and well-being. It is obvious that the faculty care deeply about the residents and foster a safe learning environment.

Beyond the faculty, the residents with whom I interacted were excited about practicing medicine here and made me feel especially welcomed. Grand Rapids is also a fantastic city with a variety of activities to enjoy!

I love being in the outdoors and winter sports in particular, so naturally Michigan is a great fit. I also enjoy trying new foods and taking spontaneous travel trips with my friends.

Finding a place where I could build family-like relationships and where I could foster a healthy community for learning and teaching. Those were, and still are very important things for me, professionally. From the very beginning, during the Residents Social event and through the interviewing process, I had a deep conviction that I had found the right place for me.

Geographically speaking, Grand Rapids was a very appealing choice. I get to be close to friends and family which makes this, an incomparable opportunity.

I chose this program because talking to the faculty was so comfortable. Dr Hull and I grew up around the same area so it was a great conversation about our hometowns. After talking to the current residents, it seemed like such a supportive place to work. I really saw myself working there.

The Grand Rapids area has always been so fun for me to visit, and will be a wonderful place to see my son grow up while I complete my training.

I enjoy bowling with my family, watching baseball games, Super Bowl (pretty much the commercials unless I'm interested in a team playing), spending days at the lake, and game nights.

I chose Mercy Health Grand Rapids for my residency because of the strong sense of community and the incredibly warm and friendly culture. It was clear even from my very first educational experience there that the faculty, residents, and staff were welcoming and supportive.

Hobbies/what I do outside of work

I am passionate about mountain biking and enjoy riding at local trails that I volunteer to maintain. One of my favorite activities is to travel to other areas and explore new trails with my friends. When I want to challenge myself I compete in race events and for fun I join social rides to further engage in the mountain biking community. At home I spend my free time in the garage working on DIY projects, maintaining my bikes, and detailing cars. I am also a computer and technology enthusiast and like learning about the latest tech developments which could enhance our lives.

Mercy Health has so many aspects of a program right for me with its approachable faculty, friendly and fulfilled residents, and focus on patient-care first and foremost especially to diverse communities in the Grand Rapids area. Mercy Health's diverse and large patient population and the ability to have one-on-one learning moments with experienced faculty appeals to me highly because of how much it will help me grow into the type of physician that I would like to become. I chose Mercy Health because of the program's commitment to patient care; residents' education and well-being; and excellent research. The residents and faculty were friendly throughout my interview and the Program Director was very personable. Grand Rapids is a rapidly growing city with a vibrant population. The culture is diverse, the food is amazing, and the landscape is beautiful. I do not doubt that this will be a great place to raise a family and build a successful career.

I love photography, dancing, and cooking. Playing soccer, chess, and participating in charity marathons helps me strengthen my physical and mental endurance. Orchestras and live concerts are a thing and I find humanitarian services enriching.
