Hospice and Palliative Medicine

Welcome from the Program Director

Welcome to the Trinity Health Grand Rapids, Medical Education Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program! We’re delighted to share some information with you about our program, our area, and this exciting opportunity. Our program is a true community-based collaborative effort between area hospices, universities, hospitals, and providers.

Participants in our program will rotate with board-certified hospice and palliative physicians in palliative services at Trinity Health Saint Mary’s – Grand Rapids, community hospice programs and Trillium Woods, an inpatient hospice center operated by Faith Hospice. Pediatric palliative training is done with the pediatric palliative program at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. We additionally have rotational opportunities for our fellows with Trinity Health Muskegon and Harbor Hospice in Muskegon. Outpatient palliative clinic opportunities are also a core experience in our training program.

Our program is affiliated with Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and enjoys a rich tradition of participating in the training of medical students at all levels, residents from several specialties, and fellows from various disciplines. Our program is fortunate to have financial support from the Trillium Institute, and our fellows enjoy a generous salary and benefits package.

I invite you to explore the richness of Grand Rapids and the broader West Michigan area by taking the Grand Rapids tour off our website. This is truly a wonderful place to train, to work, and to live. If you have any questions or would like to apply, please browse our pages.

Best wishes,

John Mulder, MD, FAAHPM, HMDC
Program Director
