Overview
The Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital/University of Michigan colon and rectal surgery residency is an ACGME-accredited one year clinical program centered in a 548-bed teaching hospital on a 340 acre campus. Candidates apply and are appointed through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). The Program Director is Robert K Cleary, MD. This program emphasizes didactic teaching, research, operative experience to include robotic training, adherence to ACGME policies, and innovation. The Program Director is faculty for the National Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship Robotic Training Courses. The fellow attends one of these courses and will be fully trained in robotic colorectal surgery. The fellow rotates for 3 months at the University of Michigan for a comprehensive university experience under the leadership of John C Byrn, MD. The fellow also attends the Cleveland Colorectal Residents Annual Career Course, Board preparation courses, the spring American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons Meeting, and several other regional meetings. Fellows are very well prepared for the next chapter in life in any academic or community setting.
