Our Impact

We invest in nutrition security and sustainable food systems.

Poor nutrition is the leading cause of illness in the United States with over 600,000 Americans dying each year due to diet related illnesses. To live our mission as a transforming healing presence, the Farm at Trinity Health invests in nutrition security for all and sustainable food systems.

Nutrition Security

The USDA defines nutrition security as “consistent and equitable access to healthy, safe, and affordable foods that promote optimal health and well-being.” The Farm promotes nutrition security by running the Farm Share Assistance program, our Produce to Patients program, and free food pantries.

Sustainable Food Systems

A robust local, sustainable food system not only increases nutrition security for all but also supports our local economy and ecology! Therefore, we strive to create opportunities to support our local farmers.

This entails partnering with them on our collaborative Farm Share, which generates over $200,000 for local farms annually, providing training and support as they grow to meet our demand; and making it easy to participate!

The Healing Power of Flowers

The Growing Compassion Garden brings a powerful healing presence to The Farms at Trinity Health through a joyful and beautiful dose of nature: flowers.  We give flowers to hospitalized patients who are alone and in need of some joy. The flowers are grown by our Farm team, then volunteers pick the flowers and create artfully arranged bouquets. Hospital volunteers and our Spiritual Care teams then deliver the flowers to patients who are alone in the hospital.

This program was started in 2016 and our goal is to get more staff volunteers interested in supporting the program, so that it can continue to expand and include more direct patient deliveries. In 2023 we donated over 1,000 bouquets to patients.
