National Kidney Registry
Our transplant program has partnered with the National Kidney Registry. NKR is the largest paired donation program in the world. We are the only adult kidney trnasplant center in Michigan that has partnered with this program. Participating in this program has saved countless lives and provided a unique opportunity for our living donors and recipients.

Why Be a Part of NKR?
- NKR runs matches daily. By doing so, it increases the chance of finding a compatible pair and a closer match a quickly as possible.
- The likelihood of finding a match may be sooner than traditional paired programs.
- It has the largest living donor pool in the world. NKR has facilitated more exchange transplants than any other exchange program in the world, over 7,000 NKR facilitated transplants.
- Patients who are transplanted and experience kidney failure within 90 days will have prioritization for another transplant from another living donor.
- The NKR provides patients the best chance of safely finding a well-matched donor, which increases kidney life years.
- NKR offers creative solutions to receiving transplants. For example, they offer advanced donation vouchers, which means the donor can give now, and recipients can receive a kidney transplant when they’re ready.
Options for Those Without a Living Donor
A benefit of partnering with NKR is that all our recipients can partake in the Microsite Champion Program for free! This user-friendly and easy-to-navigate program helps patients develop a personalized website where they can share their story and what it would mean to them to receive a transplant.
This website can be shared through multiple different media platforms for potential donors to view. Recipients also receive a set of free business cards with the link to their microsite that they can give out. This website and the business cards are created in a way that protects the patient’s personal information and will send interested donor information directly to our transplant center to begin the donor evaluation process.
