Types of Breast Imaging We Provide
Our experts use advanced imaging technology to detect breast cancer or benign (noncancerous) conditions. Services we provide include:
Screening Mammograms
A screening mammogram checks for signs of breast cancer in women who do not have a lump or breast changes. This test uses safe X-ray levels to look for early signs of breast cancer that you can’t see or feel.
Ask your provider when and how often you need a mammogram based on your medical history and your risk factors. We want to help you prevent breast cancer or catch it early. Once you receive a mammogram at our breast center, we’ll send you reminders to help you schedule your next screening.
What is a 3D Mammogram?
3D mammography, also known as tomosynthesis, is a cutting-edge technology that provides a clearer and more detailed view of breast tissue compared to traditional 2D mammograms. It is especially useful for those with dense breast tissue.
It works by taking multiple images of the breast from different angles, creating a 3D reconstruction. This allows our expert radiologists to examine your breast tissue layer by layer, making it easier to spot even the smallest abnormalities.
Our 3D mammography:
- Helps find or rule out breast cancer more easily
- Provides more reliable results
- Quick and comfortable. Typically takes just a few minutes
- Uses the safest and lowest possible level of radiation
- Is covered by Medicare and most insurances
Diagnostic Mammogram
If your screening mammogram shows an abnormal area, you may need a diagnostic mammogram. During this test, our specialists focus on specific areas of the breast. We may take close-up images of abnormal areas.
We know that getting a diagnostic mammogram can be stressful. So our experts look at your images right away and give you results during the same visit. When needed, we can communicate with your provider and help you set up follow-up appointments.
Breast MRI
Breast MRI uses high-powered magnets and computer imaging to take incredibly detailed images of your breast tissue. This non-invasive, painless scan doesn’t replace your mammogram. Instead, it provides important information in cases where we need to diagnose or rule out breast cancer.
Our team performs a breast MRI to check areas that look suspicious on a mammogram. This imaging test is also valuable for women at high risk of breast cancer.
Breast Ultrasound
Our technicians are skilled in performing breast ultrasounds, which use sound waves to take pictures of your breast tissue. An ultrasound can show specific benign conditions, like fluid-filled cysts in the breast. Our breast specialists may recommend an ultrasound after a screening or diagnostic mammogram shows an abnormal area.
Breast ultrasounds are also used during a needle biopsy procedure. Learn more about our breast biopsy, mastectomy and reconstruction services.
After Your Breast Imaging Test
Your care doesn’t end after your tests are complete. Our team guides you through next steps and when you can expect your results. We also help you arrange follow-up care when needed.
