Ypsilanti, Mich. (Aug. 8, 2023) – Trinity Health Ann Arbor has earned accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery (COERS) by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC). This accreditation reflects the hospital’s success in meeting or exceeding patient safety and quality care standards in the area of robotic surgery.

“It takes an elite level of experience and dedication to receive this accreditation, and I could not be more pleased and proud of our team for having received it,” said Alonzo Lewis, president of Trinity Health Ann Arbor and Trinity Health Livingston. “This not only confirms our commitment to delivering the very best and up-to-date minimally invasive procedures, but reassures our patients they are receiving safe, high-quality care anytime they step foot into Trinity Health Ann Arbor.”

The SRC, which is a non-profit patient safety organization, accredits top medical facilities, surgeons and medical professionals around the world that provide safe and effective patient care. Accreditations remain in place as long as the recipient continues to actively follow the requirements and program criteria from the SRC. Site inspections are scheduled every three years after receiving accreditation, to ensure these high standards are maintained.

Some of Trinity Health Ann Arbor’s surgery sub-specialties that perform robotic procedures include cardiovascular, colon and rectal, women’s health, thoracic, urology, trauma and general surgery.

“I have performed well over 500 robotic cases inside the hospital using an advanced technology that allows me to perform minimally invasive procedures and deliver outcomes that far exceed more traditional surgical techniques,” said Amanda McClure, MD, a colorectal surgeon and the robotic surgery physician lead at Trinity Health Ann Arbor. “Compared to traditional surgery, our robotic surgical platform provides patients with shorter recovery times, smaller incisions, less complications, and less post-operative pain, among many other benefits. Receiving this accreditation is a significant accomplishment for our surgical team, and we could not be more excited to receive it.”

To demonstrate its advanced capabilities within robotic surgery, Trinity Health Ann Arbor will host a three-day educational Robotic Surgery Showcase on Sept. 11-13, from 2-6 p.m. at the One North Event Center (next to the hospital’s main entrance lobby). Attendees of the event will learn about the various types of robotic surgeries available and take part in health screening opportunities.
