The west side of Michigan is the best side of Michigan. I enjoy the busy practice environment of the hospital system, working as the ultrasound director with our residents and living next to Lake Michigan with my family.
I enjoy snowboarding, backpacking and camping, mountain biking, running, kayaking, and MSU basketball and football.

I work as the Emergency Ultrasound Director for Lake Michigan Emergency Specialists and the Muskegon Emergency Medicine Residency. I have completed an ultrasound fellowship at the University of Michigan for subspecialty training. I've also performed research in bedside ultrasound, with prior projects regarding ultrasound guided central line placement, developing a bedside ultrasound curriculum for medical school, advanced cardiac measurements in the ED, and working with Special Operations Combat Medics with training of bedside ultrasound prior to military deployment.
I also have wilderness medicine interests with prior completion of a wilderness fellowship through the Wilderness Medical Society, and leading wilderness medicine electives and prior backcountry expeditions with medical students.

When I interviewed in Muskegon in 1996, I was impressed with the independent ED group and the philosophy of the director. He told me our main goal is not to become rich emergency physicians. We want to be old emergency physicians known for treating each patient like they are our grandmother. In other words, we want a reasonable lifestyle, work/life balance, and the ability to work as long as want without being burned out. We want to treat people with dignity and respect. That philosophy prevails today.
I enjoy medical missions, traveling and boating.
