Resident Research Program
Program Overview
The overarching goal of the Internal Medicine program is excellence in patient care. Participating in research and scholarly activity supports creation of new knowledge, as well as in translation of recently published research to evidence-based practice, therefore, improving patient care.
Program Highlights
Our program is focused on guiding and mentoring residents that are motivated and enthusiastic in finding a niche in research. A unique academic plan will be developed for each resident based on prior research experience, career goals and duration of training at THMI. Supportive faculty and accessible research department create an environment conducive for excellence in scholarly activity. Intramural funding for resident research up to $10,000 per project
- Ph.D. statistician
- Master’s level trained project managers
- Access to REDCap for data management
- Institutional research committee to provide feedback and critique of research protocols
- Assistance in review and critiquing of abstracts and protocols by program faculty
- On-site print shop and poster design
- Access to librarian and software for meta-analysis

Our Success:
With our structured research model, we have been able to steadily increase our productivity in our scholarly pursuits. We have had multiple abstract submissions with national and local recognition. In addition, there has also been an increase in national presentations and publications and awards.
Director of Clinical Research
Dr. Anupam Suneja completed his medical education at Delhi University in India. He completed his residency and chief residency at Flushing Hospital Medical Center in New York. After completing his Masters in Public Health with a major in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and Geriatric fellowship at Boston University, he served as faculty member at Boston University School of Medicine. He moved to St. Joseph Mercy (Ann Arbor) after being an Associate Program Director for many years at Wayne State University. His main interest is to develop research structure to facilitate resident research.
