Guidelines and Requirements

Thank you for your interest in our Internal Medicine Residency Program at Trinity Health Ann Arbor.

Application to Trinity Health Hospital's Internal Medicine Residency Program may be made through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). For more information on the ERAS application process, please visit their website at https://www.aamc.org/students/medstudents/eras/

Please note the following NRMP numbers when selecting our program Categorical Internal Medicine Program NRMP number is 1292140C0

Below are our guidelines for application:

  • Additional recommendation letters/documents sent outside of ERAS will not be reviewed.
  • You must have passed USMLE Step 1, Step 2 CS and CK to start residency.
  • While we do not have USMLE score requirements, it is strongly preferred that USMLE test scores for USMLE 1 be at least 220 and USMLE 2 be at least 230 or greater on the first attempt. Osteopathic applicants (DO) need not take USMLE exams to be considered for our program. The COMLEX exams are accepted.
  • We do accept international medical graduates. International medical graduates must be eligible for ECFMG certification and hold valid ECFMG certificate at start of residency. Must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • While we do not have a strict graduation cut-off, we give strong preference to individuals who have graduated within the last 3 years (or who have been in a residency training program in a different country within the last 3 years).
  • We accept applicants with a J1 Visa, with the sponsorship through ECFMG. If you are a foreign national but have an advanced degree from a US medical school M.D./D.O. or US graduate school (M.P.H.), you will be able to start residency on an OPT visa through your school. Following that, you will then revert to a J1 visa.
  • We prefer but do not require USCE (US clinical experience).
  • Interviews are offered in mid-October and will take place late October through mid-January.

Due to the volume of emails received, we are unable to answer each request individually nor is it possible to pre-screen application material. I hope you understand.
