Data Management and Extraction
REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) is a secure, web-based application that is used to store data for research at Trinity Health Michigan. It is used for building and managing online surveys and databases. Any individual conducting research at Trinity Health Michigan who needs a secure way of collecting and storing data must use REDCap rather than the use of Microsoft Excel, Access, flash drives and personal computers.
To obtain a user name and password for REDCap, please send an email including:
- your first and last name
- preferred email address (generally your work or university email)
- a brief description of what projects you will be using REDCap for
- a copy of your IRB approval letter
to GR-RedCapResearch@trinity-health.org. Please note that username and password requests will typically be addressed within a week (Monday through Friday only).
When attempting to access the organization's REDCap website, a Certificate Error may show "There is a problem with this website's security certificate". Per Trinity Information Services, choose "Continue to the website (not recommended)."
Please remember that this site must only be accessed while on Trinity Health Michigan campuses via Trinity Health computers. Students conducting research may use the designated computers in the Research and Innovation Hoteling Space to access REDCap. For access to this space, send a request to GR-RedCapResearch@trinity-health.org.
REDCap provides several video tutorials on its website that provide a good overview on how to get started with using the system. All new users to REDCap are required to complete the "REDCap Detailed Overview", a 14 minute video that provides an overview of all the functions and features of REDCap.
This video can be found under the REDCap Training Resources tab once logged in via a Trinity Health Michigan computer or under "Videos" behind the Resources tab on the official REDCap website, which can be accessed from any computer and viewed by any individual without a username and password. Once the "REDCap Detailed Overview" is completed, it is strongly encouraged that all new users explore the additional tutorial videos for guidance with operating REDCap.
For further assistance, please feel free to contact the REDCap helpdesk at GR-RedCapResearch@trinity-health.org.
