PONTIAC, Michigan (Dec. 17, 2019) – Earlier today, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland was named a Top Teaching Hospital nationally by The Leapfrog Group, a watchdog organization of employers and other purchasers focused on health care safety and quality. The recognition follows the recent announcement that St. Joe's Oakland received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade on The Leapfrog Group's Fall 2019 scorecard.
"Our hospital has been training physicians for nearly 50 years, many of whom have gone on to establish themselves as leaders in their field," said Shannon Striebich, president of St. Joseph Mercy Oakland. "Medical education is part of our overall mission and is a pillar of our success as an institution."
Of more than 2,100 hospitals considered for Top Hospital Awards nationally, St. Joe's Oakland was among 55 recognized as a Top Teaching Hospital.
To qualify for the Top Hospitals distinction, hospitals must rank top among peers in the 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Survey, which assesses hospital performance on the highest known standards for quality and patient safety, and achieve top performance in its category. “We are pleased to recognize St. Joseph Mercy Oakland as a 2019 Leapfrog Top Hospital,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “This demonstrates extraordinary dedication to patients and to the Oakland County community.
