Clinical Training Sites
Trinity Health Oakland Hospital (Pontiac, MI)
Trinity Health Oakland is a 497-bed community teaching hospital, Level II trauma center and longtime leader in health care in Oakland County. Residents are exposed to traditional laparotomy procedures as well as laparoscopic, robotic, and vaginal procedures here. The hospital also has a Level III NICU that allows for delivery and treatment of infants of all gestational ages. The hospital campus features a surgical pavilion, south patient tower with 204 private rooms and recently renovated mother baby unit. Residents complete the majority of their training at this hospital.
Trinity Health Livonia Hospital (Livonia, MI)
St. Mary Mercy is a 304-bed community hospital with six residency programs, a 24-hour emergency department, and a Level II Trauma Center. Residents rotate to this Trinity Hospital in PGY3 and PGY4 for Ob/Gyn in-patient and outpatient services in Urogynecology and Gynecology Oncology.
Academics
Our didactics are very structured, with an emphasis on the expectation of academic and clinical excellence. There is daily protected time for lectures as well as dedicated educational workshops and courses throughout the year. All of the residents participate in daily and monthly didactic lectures on-site and participate in the department quality improvement initiatives. Each resident will also complete and present at least one Quality Improvement/Research Project by their fourth year of training. The program is affiliated with two educational consortia, Michigan State University’s Statewide Campus System (SCS) and Southeast Michigan Center for Medical Education (SEMCME). Both SCS and SEMCME provide resources and workshops that enhance the resident's educational experiences. Highlights of specialty series/conferences are provided below by Post-Graduate Year.
The combination of supervision and guidance from our faculty, the resources mentioned above, and the hard work of each trainee allows our residents to build a strong foundation of knowledge and skills that prepare them for progressive levels of responsibility in each year as they work toward achieving the goal of becoming an independent practitioner.
