Physician Assistant – Internal Medicine Fellowship Program
The fellowship will prepare the candidate for enhanced professional practice in the knowledge, understanding and implementation of skill sets with regards to the common disease processes, skills and procedures associated with both hospital and ambulatory-based internal medicine practice.
The fellowship will begin with a six (6) month introduction to the health care system. This will entail two (2) three-month cycles of rotations in the following areas:
First cycle (3 months):
- Critical Care Medicine
- SIM LAB Proctoring for Procedure Learning
- Inpatient Hospital Based internal medicine practice
Second Cycle (3 months):
- Critical Care Medicine
- Inpatient Hospital Based internal medicine practice with additional responsibilities
- Outpatient Internal Medicine Clinic responsibilities
Core rotations will be comprised of various specialty areas on a two to four week basis in the following areas (12 months):
- Critical Care
- Internal Medicine (Hospital and Ambulatory)
- Emergency Medicine
- General Surgery/Trauma
- Nephrology
- Cardiology
- Infectious Disease
- Gastroenterology
- Anesthesia/Radiology
- Neurology
- Pulmonology
- Hematology/Oncology
Additionally, the candidate will have the ability to have an additional one to two elective rotation(s) in areas not listed above based both on interest and availability. Those opportunities will also be based on the services provided by the institution.
In an attempt to maintain the highest standards possible, program updates and changes will be constantly evaluated to ensure the candidates receive the highest level of education possible.
Fellows will be supervised under the supervision of licensed/accredited PAs, physicians and other health care professionals at all times. This process shall be in accordance with Michigan state law and national regulations with regard to physician assistant practice.
Evaluation Process
Candidates will be evaluated using written evaluations, skill set demonstration and preceptor review/evaluation. This will occur every three months for the first six months of the fellowship and then monthly at the end of each core rotation.
Tuition/Fees/Stipend/Benefits
There are no fees or tuition associated with the fellowship. The fellows will be paid a stipend and benefit package during the course of the program. Malpractice insurance will be provided as part of the fellowship. Details regarding the above can be obtained from the program director or support staff. Fellows will be responsible for all living expenses and housing during the fellowship.
