Arrhythmia Treatments at Trinity Health Michigan: Why Choose Us?

Trinity Health Michigan is home to one of the nation’s largest arrhythmia centers. Our electrophysiologists care for hundreds of people every year. We use a team approach that also includes care from cardiologists, imaging specialists and heart surgeons. Their combined expertise enables us to successfully treat the most complex arrhythmias.

Highlights of our program include:

  • Comprehensive evaluation: We perform a high volume of arrhythmia tests every year, leading to an exceptional level of care. Our electrophysiologists accurately determine the type of arrhythmia and its source. This information helps us tailor therapies so that you achieve the best possible results. Explore cardiovascular disease testing.

  • Personalized medical therapies: Trinity Health Michigan offers nearly every antiarrhythmic drug, including newly approved medications and ones only available through clinical trials. We closely monitor your response and make changes as necessary to help you feel your best.

  • Arrhythmia procedures: We offer additional care options for arrhythmias that do not respond to medical therapies. Electrophysiologists perform minimally invasive procedures. Some options, like the convergent procedure, involve additional services from our trusted heart surgeons.

  • Specialized care: Some arrhythmias require continuous monitoring with devices such as an implantable loop recorder. We use sophisticated devices that send data directly to our clinic, so you don’t need to visit as often. When checkups are necessary, our specially trained nurses can see you in our device clinic.

Advanced Procedures for Irregular Heartbeats

Our electrophysiologists often treat complex arrhythmias using catheter-based techniques. These procedures use tiny incisions and long, thin tubes (catheters) to deliver therapies that are gentle on your body.

Catheter Ablation

This procedure is for difficult-to-treat arrhythmias that do not respond to medications. Electrophysiologists use a catheter to deliver radiofrequency energy to the source of abnormal electrical signals in the heart. The treatment creates targeted areas of scar tissue that may permanently disrupt the signals, curing the arrhythmia.

WATCHMAN FLX™ Device for Atrial Fibrillation

We also offer the WATCHMAN device. It’s for people with atrial fibrillation (Afib) who cannot or do not want to be on lifelong blood thinners. This implantable device seals a pocket of heart tissue to prevent blood clot formation and lower stroke risk. Find out more about WATCHMAN for Afib.

Surgical Procedures for Arrhythmias

In some cases, a surgical procedure is the best option. We work closely with Trinity Health Michigan heart surgeons and interventional cardiologists to tailor care to your needs. Treatments may involve implanting a device to monitor or regulate heart rhythm. We offer surgical ablation, the maze procedure or the convergent procedure.
