Michael DeBacker, MD, has been in practice for over 15 years, he has clinical interests in multi-generational family care, preventive care, full-spectrum primary care, clinical quality and process improvement. Dr. DeBacker has been a volunteer at the Hope Clinic in Ypsilanti since 2003. He lives in Ypsilanti with his wife and three children and enjoys gardening, traveling and cooking. I have always found Dr. Debacker to be easy to communicate with. I had difficulty understanding the nurse/tech who initially met with me because of her accent. She also had to ask me to repeat as though she too was challenged by my midwestern accent.

Dr. DeBacker appeared to listen carefully to my issues, was friendly, showed knowledge of my problems and potential problems, and is on the lookout for other avenues that may be causing my physical issues. I was recommended him by my in-laws and was not disappointed. Additionally, even if he was rushed (I do not know if he was), he did not appear to be rushing me and did not shunt my concerns aside. I learned some things about systems of the body and the way certain medicines work in the body.

He's a good doctor but abruptly exits like I described every single time. I wish he wouldn't do that. A clear 'good to see you' and 'goodbye' would be far better, and that would give me a chance to say 'Oh! I have some questions.'Just to repeat what I said above in case you're expecting to see it in this section:My doctor didn't ask me if I had any questions, and I did. I thought he'd be coming back when he left the room for something, but he didn't come back. So I didn't get a chance to ask my questions, nor was I asked if I had any, and that bothered me. Also, one of the front-desk employees didn't wear her mask properly (it was under her nose). That felt disrespectful.I used the portal when I got home to ask my questions, but I was aggravated not to ask them during my visit.

This was only the second appointment with Dr Debacker. Dr. Winston, my primary care physician, retired this spring, and I had an initial meeting with Dr. Debacker in March. This appointment was the annual wellness appointment. I informed him about problems I had been having with my left knee. He prescribed PT and ordered an x-ray.
