New hospital in Byron Center, MI on schedule for 2025 opening
King of Prussia, PA and Grand Rapids, MI – November 2, 2023 – Southridge Behavioral Hospital, the joint venture partnership between Universal Health Services (NYSE: UHS) and Trinity Health Michigan, held a beam topping ceremony yesterday, an age-old tradition in which the last beam is placed on a construction project. This marks a major milestone for everyone on the project and it signifies the countless hours poured in the building. The new Southridge Behavioral Hospital will be located at 6291 Venture Hills Boulevard SW, near the Trinity Health Medical Center in Byron Center, Michigan.
“This beam topping is an important milestone toward the opening of the Southridge Behavioral Hospital,” said Matt Biersack, MD, president of Trinity Health Grand Rapids. “It is a visual representation of our commitment to bring much-needed behavioral health care services to our community. We are proud to see the hospital take shape and look forward to its opening in 2025.”
“The beam topping symbolizes that we are one step closer to bringing this new hospital to life and thereby serving the behavioral health needs of this community,” said Kerry Knott, Divisional Senior Vice President, UHS. “The commitment, energy and enthusiasm of the entire team working on this project is palpable and electric. This passion will carry through when we open and begin serving patients and families with high-quality care.”
On track to open in 2025, the new Southridge Behavioral Hospital will accommodate up to 96 beds, serving adult and geriatric patients. It will employ approximately 170 full-time and part-time staff including physicians, nurses, therapists, mental health technicians, administration, dietary and housekeeping personnel. Programming will be tailored to individual patient needs, with core psychiatric services and counseling supplemented with art therapy, music therapy and outdoor activities.
