Virtual visits, emergency rooms continue to provide COVID and non-COVID patient care

CANTON, Mich. (April 15, 2020) – Saint Joseph Mercy Health System is offering COVID-19 screening centers at multiple hospital locations across southeast Michigan, including St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor, St. Joseph Mercy Livingston, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland and St. Mary Mercy Livonia.

"As COVID-19 infections continue to grow, our hospitals have significantly increased their capacity and are now testing hundreds of patients each day," said Rosalie Tocco-Bradley, MD, PhD, MHSA, Chief Clinical Officer for Trinity Health Michigan. "Designed for patients who are not ill enough to warrant a hospital stay, these screening centers provide a safe and convenient location where people can be screened by a trained member of our staff and have a quick swab sample taken for testing, if needed, to diagnose a COVID-19 illness."

Individuals can be tested if they meet the CDC and State of Michigan testing criteria, which includes patients who are high risk and present with a fever above 100 degrees AND a cough (lasting less than six weeks), OR shortness of breath.

Patients interested in being screened do not need an appointment or a physician referral. However, it is recommended that patients with suspected COVID-19 take a virtual screening online at free online COVID screening, where they will be screened and can be referred to a Video Visit or see a primary care provider, who will order the COVID-19 test if necessary. Physician orders can be filled at the screening locations below.

A list of screening locations can be found on our Covid-19 webpage. Anyone with questions can call St. Joe's COVID-19 Hotline at 1-833-247-1258.

In addition, the emergency departments at all five St. Joe's hospitals (St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor, St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea, St. Joseph Mercy Livingston, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland and St. Mary Mercy Livonia) as well as St. Joseph Mercy Brighton health center are all open for COVID and non-COVID care. As always, these fully functional emergency rooms are able to provide 24/7 care for cardiac issues, trauma, strokes, and any other concerns. St. Joe's has implemented a vigorous screening process with strict safety measures in place to ensure all patients can safely seek care for any urgent and emergent needs.
