Rep. Haley Stevens, Local Health Care Advocates Join Protect Our Care on Nationwide Tour to Highlight What’s At Stake for Michiganders In Lawsuit to Overturn Health Care

Livonia, MI (August 14, 2019) - This afternoon Protect Our Care’s nationwide Health Care Emergency Tour arrived in Livonia to call attention to the ongoing battle against health care and the threat posed by Texas v. United States, the lawsuit to overturn the health care law. Headlined by U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens, the event highlighted how the lawsuit would harm Michiganders’ care, called on Congress to denounce the lawsuit, and discussed an agenda to improve health care and lower costs for Americans.

You can watch the event here.

“Thousands of families in my district depend on the Affordable Care Act to protect their access to the healthcare they need,” said Congresswoman Haley Stevens. “We need to continue working to lower costs and provide better care, but this Administration is determined to send us backwards by gutting the Affordable Care Act. I am grateful to Protect Our Care for their efforts to save the Affordable Care Act, and I am proud to partner with them to lower healthcare costs and protect access to care for people with preexisting conditions.”

“We’re standing up for hard-working Michiganders who rely on the ACA and want the constant threats against their health care to end,” said State Rep. Laurie Pohutsky. “If successful, the Texas v. United States lawsuit would snatch health care from millions of

Michiganders and leave them without coverage, resulting in an 115% increase in the number of uninsured Michiganders.”

"At IHA, one of the largest multispecialty physician groups in Michigan, we have seen firsthand how the ACA has improved the lives of so many across the state—nearly 1,000,000 individuals," said Dr. Mark LePage, chief executive officer, IHA. "And, as part of Trinity Health, one of the leading Catholic health systems in the country, we advocate for public policies that support better health, better care and lower costs for all, and we strongly believe that access to affordable, high quality care is a basic human right."

Tomorrow, “Care Force One” will head to Pennsylvania where Protect Our Care will be joined by U.S. Senator Bob Casey and U.S.

Rep. Susan Wild.
