August 4, 2024Categories: Neurosciences
DNV Healthcare USA Inc. awarded certification to Trinity Health Grand Haven as a Primary Stroke Center for a three (3) year term effective June 26, 2024.
The Primary Stroke Center Certification Program of DNV Healthcare USA Inc. integrates certain requirements of the CMS Conditions of Participation for Hospitals, Guidelines of the Brain Attack Coalition, and Recommendations of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association®.
In addition, Grand Haven received $40,000 in grants from the Cornelia B. Wagener and Ruth B. Hoek Fund, and the Greatest Needs Fund of the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation to purchase the Teladoc Health Lite™ 4. The Lite 4 provides high quality HIPAA compliant audio and video sessions between a provider and a patient over the Teladoc Health Telehealth Network.
Treating strokes as quickly as possible is critical to minimizing the long-term effects on patients. Delayed treatment can result in irreversible brain damage, disability, or even death. Grand Haven emergency medical teams can quickly connect with stroke specialists in another location, enabling faster stroke response times and improved outcomes.
“The device has a specialized camera for a stroke neurologist to see and assess the patient from a remote location,” said Jessie Sullivan, BSN, RN, SCRN, Clinical Nurse Educator, Stroke Program Coordinator, Trinity Health Grand Haven. “We’ll use this in the ED for hyperacute stroke care to determine the appropriate treatment and care plans for the patient, and on the inpatient unit for continued monitoring and evaluation.”
Trinity Health Muskegon is also certified as a Primary Stroke Center, Grand Rapids as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, and Shelby as Acute Stroke Ready.
