When the annual Wish-A-Mile Bicycle Tour hits the road next week, 26 Team Trinity cyclists will pedal 300 miles across West Michigan to help grant life-changing wishes for children with serious medical conditions. The ride has special significance because their Wish Hero is 16-year-old Holden, the son of a Trinity Health colleague.
As the largest fundraising event for Make-A-Wish Michigan, the ride brings together cyclists for a challenging three-day ride across West Michigan from July 26 to 28. Among the many dedicated participants, Team Trinity stands out with its impressive history and commitment.
Rob Casalou, president and CEO of Trinity Health Michigan, Florida, and Georgia Regions, has led Team Trinity on every ride since 2012, raising a combined $1 million and contributing to countless wish-fulfillments that bring joy and hope to children and their families.
“We're incredibly grateful to our team members and supporters,” Casalou said. “It’s such a joy to ride for these beautiful kids and families, knowing we’re making a difference. When Wish Heroes put the medals around our necks, it reminds us why we do this. This event is truly special.”
This year, Team Trinity's ride is even more special as they ride for Holden, the son of Rose Juhasz, Director of Oncology Research for Trinity Health–Southeast Michigan. Diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy as a child, Holden's courage and positivity have touched the hearts of many within the Trinity Health community and beyond.
Juhasz said she is proud to work for an organization that lives its values through active involvement in programs such as Make-A-Wish. Knowing her fellow colleagues are involved in the ride makes it even more meaningful.
One of those cyclists is Trinity Health Livonia Chief Medical Officer and President Matthew Griffin, MD, who has been involved in the ride for the past four years.
“I ride because I know how life altering a serious illness can be, not only on the child but also the parents and siblings,” Dr. Griffin said. “All of us on Team Trinity are excited to make Holden’s wish possible because it’s so important for a family to restore a sense of normalcy and have an experience they will remember forever."
Holden's wish to visit Hawaii will be granted this fall, a much-anticipated trip that promises joy and adventure for him and his family. As the Wish Hero, Holden will have the honor of distributing medals to Team Trinity riders at the finish line, a moment that symbolizes the collective effort and support from the community. He was also able to submit art for a customized jersey for the riders, which is particularly meaningful as art is something Holden truly enjoys.
Team Trinity boasts a roster of 26 dedicated riders, including team leader Rob Casalou; Chief Clinical Officer Rosalie Tocco-Bradley, PhD, MD; Dr. Griffin; Patrick Hoban, President of Probility PT, and Cody Husemann, Director of Oncology at Trinity Health Livonia. The Wish-A-Mile Bicycle Tour is not just a ride; it’s a symbol of hope, community, and the unwavering human spirit. Through their participation, Team Trinity exemplifies these values, making a tangible difference in the lives of young people like Holden. As they pedal through the miles, they carry with them the hopes and dreams of countless wish children, turning the wheels of change one mile at a time.
