What’s your role for the health system and what hospital do you work in?
I am an ER and ICU Supply Chain Specialist at Trinity Health Livonia. I coordinate and work to improve supply chain operations at the hospital. My day-to-day job duties can include procuring medical, office, and surgical materials, managing order prices and quantities, organizing inventories, resolving any/all supply chain issues, and much more. Additionally, I work with leadership in both departments to develop and document standard work methodologies for supply chain and staff.
Can you tell us about a rewarding or inspiring experience you have had working at Trinity Health Michigan?
My rewarding experience with Trinity Health Michigan is having a supportive team, which is one of the most significant benefits any company can offer.
Do you have any advice for African Americans interested in pursuing a career in health care?
Always focus on your daily goals, keep a smile on your face, remember to always think positively, and be the leader that you are. One thing I do is learn from difficult interactions in the workplace and educate others regarding misunderstandings I have encountered. I frequently reflect on one of my favorite affirmations, which is a quote by Civil Rights Activist James Baldwin, “Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”
Understand that your purpose here is to be part the larger caregiving team. The opportunities within the umbrella of the health care field are endless. Never give up on your goals, and always push yourself to learn and be an example for others.
