Congratulations to chief nursing officer for Mercy Health Saint Mary’s, Liz Murphy, BScN, MSBA, RN, NEA-BC, FACHE, for receiving a West Michigan Woman Brilliance Award in the category of Mentorship for 2019.
Nominated by Dave McEwen, chief operating officer for Mercy Health Saint Mary’s, Murphy was recognized for her devotion to nurses and the nursing profession, and she accepted the award on April 25, 2019, at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
West Michigan Woman describes mentorship as “…a woman who provides valuable advice and support, through a significant commitment of time and care, leading to the growth of other women’s professional skills and abilities. The woman honored with this award fosters talent and empowers others so they might grow beyond their goals and achieve beyond expectation.”
In his nomination, McEwen describes Murphy with the following:
“As a nurse executive, she cultivated relationships with education partners to improve nursing curriculum, identify pipelines for new talent and secure development resources for established nurses. Along the way, Liz provided consultation in curriculum development and crafted learning environments for new, wide-eyed nursing students…
“Liz encourages nurses to consider advanced degrees in nursing, business, education, bioethics, medicine and informatics. Under her leadership, Mercy Health Saint Mary’s has earned the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s MAGNET recognition– the highest designation in the country – that celebrates nursing autonomy, education and excellence.
“Liz continues to be a passionate champion for patient care, elevating the nursing profession as being the trusted, compassionate advocate that patients deserve. She has made a lasting impression with the hundreds of nurses that are now faithfully serving our community.”
Congratulations to Murphy, who joins the elite ranks, alongside Jamie Caughran, who received accolades from West Michigan Woman in 2018 under the Team Player category.
