Program Director, General Dental Residency Dr. Clark earned his dental degree from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. Upon graduation he taught Restorative Dentistry for several years while starting a dental practice from scratch. As a part of his teaching commitment, he treated patients with special needs in their service clinic and provided restorative care for research studies. He maintains a private practice in Farmington Hills in partnership with his dentist wife. He has been a volunteer attending dentist with the residency program since 2015.He is a member of the Oakland County Dental Society, the Michigan Dental Association and the American Dental Association. Dr. Clark has a great deal of experience with practice management, dental office systems and is happy to share his knowledge in assisting residents during their year with the program and evaluating future career opportunities. |

Founding Program Director, General Dental Residency Dr. Craig Spangler has been involved in almost all phases of dentistry since his graduation from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. In the year following graduation, he completed a General Practice Residency in Dentistry at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland (now Trinity Health Oakland). He practiced in his private practice in Bloomfield Hills beginning in 1980 till his sale of the practice in 2021. During this time he treated patients with special needs, including many whom he treated for over 30 years. In 2010, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland asked him to restart the General Dental Residency Program and he served as Program Director till his retirement in 2019. He returned as Interim Program Director for the 2022-23 resident year. Dr. Spangler is a CDCA/WREB Board Examiner and was appointed by Governor Whitmer to the State Board of Dentistry in 2022. He has taught at the University of Michigan and has published numerous articles on dental treatment for adults with Special Needs. Dr. Spangler has lectured extensively at state, national and international meetings throughout this career. |
