Didactic Experiences
The didactic portion of the residency program has multiple components that go beyond what residents learn in dental school. There are multiple ways that this portion of the program is delivered, and it is designed to be interesting and motivational.
Advanced Oral Pathology
A 12 week class in Advanced Oral Pathology is taught in the Fall by two Oral Pathologists on the staff at Trinity Health Oakland. There is a very clinical focus in the material and it is designed to help the resident to be a more complete diagnostician.
Journal Club
Article are chosen for review that are considered significant, controversial or provocative. The objective is to get the residents to apply ciritical thinking skills to ideas or concepts and test them against available evidence.
Outside Meetings
Residents attend local dental society meetings, state dental meetings and other continuing education opportunities that are in our area. As the Program Directors, or attending dentists are also attending, it is great opportunity to meet local dentists and network for opportunities.
Simulation Lab
The simulation lab is the site of our curriculum on treating Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office. About 18 different scenarios are simulated and residents work as teams or with other dental team members to realistically address these emergency situation
