Welcome to the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship/Wayne State University Program at Trinity Health Oakland. Our accomplished faculty is dedicated to the education of its cardiovascular disease trainees. The fellowship training program in cardiovascular medicine is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and adheres strictly to ACGME and American College of Cardiology (ACC) guidelines.

Our Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship/Wayne State University Program is equipped with skilled experts and dedicated faculty to train students in disorders of the heart and the cardiovascular system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease and electrophysiology

Mission Statement

The mission of the Trinity Health Oakland Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship/Wayne State University Program is to train Board Certified Cardiologists who are capable providing outstanding cardiac care to patients from all walks of life with particular emphasis on care for underserved populations. Our graduates will remain life-long learners who are able to lead a cardiology practice in the settings of their choice.

Program Aims

The Trinity Health Oakland Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship/Wayne State University Program aims to train Board Certified Cardiologists who are capable of independent practice in a comprehensive cardiology practice. The program goals are to train physicians who provide compassionate, evidence-based, high-quality care that is safe and innovative, with a commitment to serve the poor and vulnerable, honoring the dignity of every person and improving community health by identifying and mitigating disparities and barriers to care

Overview

Our fellowship provides a three-year, in-depth experience and training in the details of cardiovascular disease. The training is under the direct supervision of multiple, highly skilled faculty members. We have two fellows per year of training for a total of six fellows. At the completion of the fellowship, each fellow is board-eligible in the subspecialty of Cardiology.

Program Structure

The fellowship has core rotations in cardiac consultation, acute coronary care, cardiac catheterization, non-invasive cardiology (including echocardiography, nuclear, CT and MR), cardiac electrophysiology, electrocardiography, research and vascular medicine. We also provide the option of electives in areas of special interest

Our fellowship program includes daily academic conferences. Our regular conferences include:

  • Non-Invasive (including Echocardiography, Nuclear, CT and MR)
  • Cardiology Grand Rounds
  • Electrophysiology
  • Electrocardiography
  • Morbidity & Mortality
  • Research
  • Journal Review

There is also an extensive series of conferences covering a well-thought-out core curriculum.
