Types of bariatric surgery we offer include:
Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass
Surgeons use staples to create a small stomach pouch that limits the amount of food you consume. Creating a pouch also limits the release of appetite-stimulating hormones, so you aren’t as hungry. We seal the remaining portion of the stomach and leave it in place.
Roux-en-Y gastric bypass also involves rerouting the intestines so that the stomach pouch deposits partially digested food further along in the small intestine. This surgical approach reduces the calories and nutrients the body absorbs.
Gastric Sleeve Surgery
We remove most of the stomach and staple the ends together, creating a small tube. This procedure does not disrupt digestive organ positioning, which lowers the risk of vitamin deficiencies. Removing a large portion of the stomach also limits the release of appetite-stimulating hormones, so you feel less hungry.
Gastric sleeve surgery alone can help you lose weight. It may also be the first of a two-stage procedure involving duodenal switch.
Duodenal Switch
Surgeons perform a gastric sleeve procedure to reduce stomach volume. Like gastric bypass, we reroute the intestines to deposit partially digested food further along in the small intestine.
Duodenal switch results in significant weight loss. However, it also has a higher risk for undernourishment and is best for people who strictly adhere to diet restrictions.
Revisional Bariatric Surgery
This option is for people who are not satisfied with the results of a previous bariatric procedure. You may need surgery to repair complications, such as stomach pouch stretching or staples, that didn’t hold. Revisional bariatric surgery may also involve a new intestinal configuration, such as converting a bypass to a gastric sleeve.
Advanced Bariatric Surgery Techniques
Our bariatric surgeons use minimally invasive techniques whenever possible. These methods are gentler on your body, leading to a quicker return to daily activities and better results.
Advanced bariatric surgery techniques we offer include:
Laparoscopic Surgery
Instead of making one large incision, surgeons make several tiny ones. They guide slender instruments and a camera through the holes to carry out the procedure.
Robot-Assisted Surgery
Robotic surgical technologies extend the reach of the surgeon’s hands. This method enables a level of precision that is not possible with other techniques.
