Our History
The hospitals and medical groups of Trinity Health Michigan have been serving the health needs of our communities for well over a century. Led by the founding spirit of the Sisters of Mercy, the Felician Sisters and the dedication of all who came before us, our roots run deep – both in our heritage and our service - and we honor the legacy of our founders.
For the majority of our history, the people we serve have known us by several names – Mercy Health, Saint Mary's, St. Joseph Mercy, St. Mary Mercy, Hackley, North Ottawa Community Hospital, and IHA, among others. The story of our founders now carries us into a new, exciting era - united as one Michigan health system. In 2022 our systems joined together in adopting the name of our sponsor company - Trinity Health Michigan.
As members of Trinity Health, our services are connected to the national network of one of the largest health systems in the country. That means more access to experts, research, facilities, support, clinical trials and leading technology.
With Trinity Health, we are embracing our heritage and our future as a unified health system working together to care for patients in every stage of life.
The founding principles, Mission and Core Values of our organization have endured for over 125 years and will always be part of us.
